Minister Han Changfu meets U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack

Minister Han Changfu met U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack in Washington DC on Sept. 23, 2015. The two sides exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral agricultural cooperation.

 

Minister Han noted that, in recent years, positive achievements have been registered in China-US agricultural cooperation, with improving cooperation mechanisms, well-functioning communication, better understanding and growing common ground. Agricultural S&T cooperation has yielded fruitful outcomes and the implementation of agricultural S&T exchanges program and other projects has contributed to agricultural S&T progress of both countries. The rapid and steady growth of agricultural trade has benefited enterprises and farmers of both countries, meeting consumption demands, generating employment opportunities and increasing farmers' income.

 

Minister Han reaffirmed that China stands ready to work with the U.S. side to further promote bilateral agricultural cooperation in the spirit of mutual respect and mutual benefit. He hopes that the two sides will make concerted efforts and accommodate each other's interests to ensure the success of the upcoming China-U.S. Strategic Agriculture Innovation Dialogue (SAID).

 

Secretary Tom Vilsack agreed with Minister Han on his comments on bilateral agricultural cooperation. He noted that the meeting of the two state leaders will promote bilateral cooperation in agriculture and world food security. He also expressed his hope to enhance cooperation with china in agricultural trade and biotechnology.
